Squamish Nation is seeking a Financial Analyst to join the Estx̱wáy̓usem Finance Department within the X̱etx̱ítayus Ch'áwch'aw Corporate Services Division. Reporting to the Manager, Financial Planning and Analysis, this role is responsible for supporting financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and decision-making across the organization. The Financial Analyst partners with operational leaders to provide meaningful financial insights, identify opportunities for improvement, and support strategic initiatives that strengthen the long-term financial sustainability of Squamish Nation.

This is an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented and analytical professional who is passionate about using financial expertise to support community-focused programs, services, and strategic priorities.

What You’ll Do
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning activities across departments.
  • Develop financial models and scenario analyses to support strategic decision-making.
  • Analyze financial results, budgets, and forecasts, and identify key drivers, trends, and variances.
  • Prepare monthly forecasts, variance analyses, and financial commentary for management review.
  • Generate quarterly and annual financial reports and provide preliminary insights for leadership and Council reporting.
  • Collaborate with operational leaders to improve financial understanding and support proactive decision-making.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings, process improvements, and operational efficiencies.
  • Support the annual budget process, including review of departmental submissions and preparation of presentation materials.
  • Assist with enhancements to planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting systems.
  • Contribute to major projects and strategic initiatives by providing financial analysis and recommendations.
  • Support month-end and year-end financial activities as required.
  • Work collaboratively with Finance team members and internal stakeholders to achieve departmental goals.
What We’re Looking For
  • Diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
  • 2 to 3 years of progressive experience in financial analysis, financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, or related fields.
  • Exposure to long-term financial planning, capital budgeting, or strategic financial initiatives.
  • Experience developing financial models and conducting scenario analysis to support business decisions.
  • Experience preparing budgets, forecasts, variance analyses, and management reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify process improvements and support operational efficiencies.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, complex formulas, and data analysis.
  • Experience with financial planning tools, ERP systems, or reporting software; JD Edwards experience is an asset.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial information to non-financial audiences.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Experience working within or alongside First Nations governments or Indigenous organizations is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw history, culture, customs, land, and people is preferred.
