The Infrastructure, Transportation & Parks Department requires a regular full-time Equipment Operator 4A.
ResponsibilitiesYou will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation, servicing and minor maintenance of heavy mobile construction and maintenance equipment such as hydraulic backhoes. You will operate a rubber tired hydraulic backhoe in a municipal construction setting; perform routine servicing and minor maintenance work on the equipment; direct the work of other employees engaged in duties related to the operation of the equipment;
and assist with other duties on the jobsite as required. You will be able to exercise considerable independent judgement and are able to verbally or receive written assignments by your supervisor. You will have considerable knowledge and experience working on and around underground utilities. You will also be required to perform additional tasks such as operating a single or tandem axle truck and perform salting and plowing duties.
You will have a thorough knowledge of the methods, practices and rules of safe and efficient operation of heavy construction and maintenance equipment, including safe work practices related to underground excavation, good knowledge of the methods, tools and practices used in servicing and performing minor repairs to such equipment, and several years of related experience. A Class 3 license with Air Endorsement will be required within six (6) months of employment.
Supports such as compensation for course fees and exams may be available.
In addition, as this position may act in the Equipment Operator 5 position, experience operating a Track Excavator would be an asset.
Compensation$40.42 per hour (2026 rates)
Hours of Work7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday to Friday
