OverviewThe Department of Geosciences and the Center for the Environment, Ecological Design and Sustainability (CEEDS) at Smith College invite applications for a teaching postdoctoral fellowship in climate change and GIS, to begin July 1, 2026. The initial term of appointment is one year, with the possibility for reappointment for a second year pending successful performance.
Teaching Responsibilities- Teach one course per year in the Geosciences department: GEO 104:
Global Climate Change:
Exploring the Past, the Present, and Options for the Future (Fall 2026) and GEO/ENV 150:
Mapping Our World:
An Introduction to Geographic Information Systems (Fall 2027). - Support curricular and co-curricular activities in the Center’s Spatial Analysis Lab (SAL) – including guest lectures, lab exercise support, workshops, mentoring student associates, and offering a one- or two-credit class during Smith’s three-week January interterm.
- Assist in developing and maintaining the SAL, with fewer responsibilities in the fall and more in the spring and summer.
- Conduct independent research on a climate change topic.
- Ph.D. in Geosciences, Geography, or a closely related field (or all degree requirements fulfilled by the start of the appointment).
- Commitment to excellence in teaching and undergraduate research.
- Strong communication, organizational, and collaborative skills.
- Applicants from groups underrepresented in Geosciences and GIS are encouraged to apply.
Pay ranges between $45,568.27 and $61,651.19 annually, covering the middle half of market compensation. Actual compensation will vary based on individual qualifications. The role includes a competitive benefits package.
