The Department of Sociology at Smith College invites applications for a 3‑year, benefits‑eligible position at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor to begin July 1, 2026. We seek a sociologist whose work focuses on medicine, health, and/or the body. Teaching responsibilities for this position will include teaching Introduction to Sociology and several intermediate (200‑level) courses in the candidate’s areas of specialty, as well as the possibility of an upper‑level (300‑level) seminar in the candidate’s area of expertise.

Strong candidates will have prior teaching experience. The teaching load is 3:2. A Ph.D. in sociology or a relevant field is expected by the time of appointment. Candidates from groups underrepresented in Sociology are encouraged to apply.
