Job Summary
Provide comprehensive support to supervising teachers. Build and maintain positive working relationships with CECE team members, families, and children while supporting the classroom environment and curriculum within the program’s philosophy.
Essential Functions- Supervision and Teaching Children (55%):
Supervise children individually or in small groups in the classroom, common areas, playground, and on field trips. Ensure children’s health and safety, promote cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development, and serve as a positive role model. Facilitate daily activities and transitions, support investigations and explorations in a team‑based environment, assist with instruction and evaluation, read to children, promote healthy sleep and nutrition habits, share observations with the supervising teacher, and assess children’s work as directed. - Maintenance of Classroom Environment and Common Spaces (20%):
Prepare and maintain cleanliness and order, inventory and stock materials, prepare food, launder textiles, set up napping or playground areas, create displays, organize materials, set up activities, record‑keeping, and document children’s learning and experiences. - Collaboration and Communication (20%):
Attend classroom team meetings, discuss individual children’s needs and development, curriculum planning and evaluation, family involvement, resources, policies, and procedures. Interact with families informally about their child’s daily experience and attend CECE events as requested. - Teaching Responsibilities (5%):
Assume the duties of the supervising teacher during short‑term absences, back up other staff as needed, and perform related duties as required.
- Background record check, including fingerprinting.
- Coursework and/or experience in an early childhood program or related field preferred.
- Eligibility for Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care teacher certification within one year of employment.
- First aid and CPR certification within the first two months of employment.
- Commitment to a nurturing, collaborative, and respectful learning environment for children, families, and staff.
- Strong communication, literacy, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of early childhood education principles and practice.
- Commitment to supporting diversity among families and staff.
- Physical ability to lift up to 10lbs, frequently up to 25lbs, and occasionally up to 50lbs; ability to climb stairs, push a stroller with up to six toddlers, and supervise children outdoors in varied weather conditions.
- Organizational and clerical skills, including keeping detailed records and documentation.
Hourly pay typically ranges from $20.71 to $25.31, covering the middle half of market compensation, depending on qualifications.
