Laboratory Instructor

Responsibilities

• Act as instructor of record for two undergraduate astronomy classes and assist in two other faculty classes per year.
• Teach an introductory-level survey class and hands‑on, inquiry‑based classes on telescopes, astronomical observing techniques, and the astronomical origins of human time systems.
• Maintain small telescopes, cameras, and computers.
• Train and mentor undergraduate teaching assistants.
• Organize public stargazing open houses.
• Order equipment and supplies.

• Familiarity with small optical telescopes is required.
• A master’s degree or Ph.D. in astronomy or a related field is expected by the time of appointment.
• Candidates from groups underrepresented in astronomy are encouraged to apply.

One‑year, half‑time (0.5 FTE) position, benefits eligible. Starting pay range is $34,500 to $35,400, with final compensation dependent on qualifications.
