Job Summary

Entry level position, responsible for recruitment and evaluation of prospective students. This position supports all recruitment and yield programs, on‑campus and virtually; other duties as assigned by the dean of admission.

Take appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participate in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.

Essential Functions Recruitment (40%)
  • Develop extensive knowledge about Smith College and present on‑campus and/or virtual information sessions regularly
  • Plan and coordinate approximately 6–8 weeks of travel annually to recruit students and manage an assigned geographic territory
  • Develop knowledge of secondary schools throughout an assigned recruitment territory, visit secondary schools, attend college fairs as assigned
  • Initiate and maintain effective communication between Smith College and college counselors from a diverse range of high schools
  • Manage correspondence and conversations with students, parents, counselors, community‑based organizations and other constituencies
  • Contribute to office initiatives as assigned, which may include project‑based work under supervisor guidance
Admission Reading and Selection (40%)
  • Read, evaluate, and participate in admission committee work to decide on candidate admissibility for admission to the college in coordination with a team of colleagues under the direction of the Dean of Admission
  • Candidates may include first‑year applicants, transfer applicants or students applying through Questbridge or Posse programs
On Campus and Virtual Programming (10%)
  • Attend and facilitate recruitment and yield activities as assigned
  • Lead on workshops for prospective and admitted students on campus or virtually as assigned
Professional Development (10%)
  • Develop skills and connections and pursue professional development opportunities to better understand current issues and challenges in the field of admission and in higher education

Perform other duties as assigned in order to ensure success of diversity and inclusion initiatives

Minimum

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 0 to 1 years experience
  • Valid Driver's License
Skills
  • High comfort level public speaking to small and large groups
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently develop and execute several key projects simultaneously
  • Must be able to work independently, have strong organizational and planning skills, and excellent writing and oral communication skills
  • Strong analytical and technological skills including familiarity with MS Office, Google Suite and ability to learn Slate CRM and Workday systems
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, ability to work as part of a team, and use sound judgment
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5 or more years experience in a higher education environment
  • Demonstrated interest in admission work including prior work or volunteer experience in an office of admission at a college or university
Travel Requirements

Car and air travel are required as well as flexibility to work nights and weekends

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation in addition to a competitive benefits package, annualized pay for this role is typically between $39,293.38 and $53,161.63 covering the middle half of market compensation. Actual compensation will vary based on individual qualifications and work schedule if less than full-time. Please note, while the salary range list for this position is wider, the range for this specific position will be $50,000–$55,000 annually.
