The Department of German and Italian Studies at Smith College invites applications for a 3-year renewable, benefits eligible, position in German Studies to begin July 1, 2026, at the rank of Lecturer. This is a continuing, non-tenure track, teaching focused faculty position with teaching as the primary responsibility. The position includes access to funds that support professional development and a track to promotion to Senior Lecturer.

The successful candidate will teach 5 courses per year at all levels of the curriculum, in German and in English, as well as actively contribute to department life and curricular development. The area of specialization is open, but interest in language acquisition is essential and experience in curricular design preferred. Candidates are expected to possess native or near-native fluency in German and English, a Ph.D. or ABD status in German, as well as a proven record in teaching German at the undergraduate level.

In addition to a competitive benefits package, starting pay range for this position is typically between $75,800-$77,800. Actual compensation will vary based on individual qualifications.
