Cooley Dickinson’s VNA & Hospice is vital to our network, providing home‑based services throughout Hampshire and Franklin counties.
SummaryResponsible for providing spiritual care to patients, families, visitors, and staff. Patients are seen at the bedside or in outpatient settings as assigned. Involved in all aspects of care, including team meetings, family meetings, and goal discussions. Staff support is provided through 1:1 encounters and group gatherings in the units and other locations as needed. Also charged with developing and leading hospital‑wide and community faith‑specific and interfaith services.
Work as team members in accordance with the department’s mission and vision statements.
- Counsel individuals or groups concerning their spiritual, emotional, or personal needs.
- Share information about religious issues by writing articles, giving speeches, or teaching.
- Respond to requests for assistance during emergencies or crises.
- Visit people in homes, hospitals, or prisons to provide them comfort and support.
- Administer religious rites or ordinances.
Bachelor’s Degree in a Related Field of Study required;
Graduate Diploma in a Related Field of Study preferred.
Experience in a hospital setting or relevant spiritual, ministry, pastoral, congregational, or other relevant experience 2‑3 years required.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Maintains current knowledge of regulations pertaining to the delivery of hospice services and conducts team operations in a manner consistent with such regulations.
- Maintains and demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of bereavement principles, practices, standards, and techniques, and applies this knowledge with integrity.
- Knowledge of various religious practices, health care ethics, grief and bereavement counseling techniques with hospice families, and excellent work organization skills.
- Two or more units of Clinical Pastoral Education from an accredited ACPE or NACC training program preferred.
- Proficient at multitasking and possessing a high level of problem‑solving skills.
- Demonstrates resiliency with matters of death and dying.
- Excellent listening and verbal communication skills.
