Central Sterile Processing Technician
The Central Sterile Processing (CSP) Technician is responsible for performing various functions involved in the pick up, assembly, processing, storage, and distribution of various reprocess and disposable items and/or equipment. This position is part of the 1199
SEIU Bargaining Unit at Cooley Dickinson Hospital. This position reports to the Supervisor, Central Sterile Processing and operates within established organizational and departmental policies and procedures. Must be able to effectively interact appropriately to an individual's intellectual level and physical ability: adult.

Essential Functions
- Perform routine duties such as decontaminating, cleaning, processing, assembling, sterilizing, disinfecting, storing, and distributing medical supplies and equipment used in patient care as well as surgical instruments, kits and trays used in surgical procedures.
- Ensure that equipment/instrument sets are complete and in good working order.
- Report any problems to the supervisor.
- Conform to all rules and regulations concerning sterilization and aseptic techniques.
- Assemble case carts for surgical procedures as required by the pick list.
- Coordinate activity with CSP/OR Materials Manager, OR Manager, or designee to prioritize days' work.
- Ensure proper inventory levels maintained on items within the Central Processing department and Surgery department.
- Participate in centralized portable equipment management process.
- Perform minor repairs on equipment if necessary.
- Operate steam, sterrad and steris sterilization equipment according to established procedures.
- Keep current on sterilization and aseptic techniques and unit policy and procedures.
- Gather statistical data for cost studies and other required reports as required.
- Maintain a neat and clean work area.
- Be able to work flexible, variable shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays and any overtime or on-call status as necessary.
- Maintain established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, confidentiality, quality improvement program, compliance, safety, infection control, and environmental standards.
- Maintain professional growth and development through attendance at seminars, workshops, conferences or in-services, professional affiliations, or journals to stay abreast of current trends in field of expertise.
- Meet annual competency and retraining requirements.
- Attend meetings as required.
- Perform other functions/duties as requested.
Qualifications
Education High School Diploma or Equivalent required Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No Licenses and Credentials Certified Central Processing Tech [CSP] - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) required Experience One (1) year CSP experience preferred Knowledge,
