The Cooley Dickinson Emergency Department is seeking a Per Diem Nurse Practitioner-to join our team at the Cooley Dickinson Main Campus, located at 30 Locust Street in Northampton, MA.
Per diem APPs are required to commit to two (2) 10-hour shifts per month, including one weekend day shift. Available shift options include:
7:00 AM - 5:00 PM
10:00 AM - 8:00 PM
1:00 PM - 11:00 PM
6:00 PM - 4:00 AM
The Cooley Dickinson Emergency Department cares for approximately 35,000 patients annually. Our team is committed to delivering responsive, compassionate, and high-quality emergency care to every patient, regardless of their ability to pay. APPs work collaboratively with our board-certified emergency medicine physicians to provide safe, timely, and evidence-based care for patients presenting with a wide range of medical conditions.
APPs manage patients across a broad spectrum of acuity, perform a variety of emergency procedures, and provide care to patients of all ages throughout the department. Responsibilities include performing medical screening examinations, evaluating and treating emergency conditions, and responding to changes in patient status during their ED stay.
Our APPs also have opportunities to teach APP students and participate in our dedicated educational program, which supports ongoing clinical growth and professional development.
The emergency department is supported by an experienced multidisciplinary team, including physicians, emergency nurses certified in trauma care, advanced cardiac life support, and pediatric life support, as well as emergency technicians, administrative staff, and patient observers who work together to provide efficient, compassionate care.
Essential Functions
Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural setting.
Performs complete histories and physical examinations.
Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.
Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.
Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries.
Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population.
Candidates must have at least two years of Emergency Medicine or Urgent Care experience practicing as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
