College Police Dispatcher
College Police Dispatcher is a non-sworn, critical role responsible for answering emergency lines (campus emergency number 5555) and business lines, operating radio communications, and monitoring security/fire alarms. They utilize CAD systems to prioritize incidents, dispatch campus police, security officers, emergency services, and update logs. They often manage mass notifications through the college’s RAVE system.
This is a casual, non-benefitted position.
Pay for this role is typically between $18.76 and $22.93 hourly, covering the middle half of market compensation. Actual compensation will vary based on individual qualifications.
Key Responsibilities- Answer emergency and non-emergency calls, obtain critical information, and dispatch police, fire, or medical units.
- Monitor security, intrusion, card access, and fire alarm systems; periodically monitor numerous security cameras.
- Log incidents into the CAD system.
- Perform CJIS queries for license, warrant, or criminal history checks.
- Handle walk-in requests for assistance at the police department.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to maintain composure during stressful, high-pressure situations.
- Ability to operate radio systems, CAD software, and Microsoft Office; capable of attaining DCJIS certification.
- Knowledge of, or ability to obtain, EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatch) and APCO PST1 certifications is helpful.
- Must pass a thorough background check.
- Must be able to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays to serve as an on-call member (casual position).
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience in public safety, security, or customer service.
- Good customer service skills.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, multi‑tasked environment.
- CAD knowledge.
- DCJIS certification.
- APCO certification.
