Job Description
The City of Northampton is seeking TRUCK DRIVER/LABORERS for Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Grade 1C, hourly pay range $23.19 – $26.80. Anticipated hiring hourly rate $23.19 – $25.18. Additional stipend of $2.00 per hour for CDL license.
DefinitionThis position is responsible for performing semi‑skilled manual work in the operation of motor‑driven vehicles and in the operation of power‑driven equipment and hand tools.
Essential Functions- All Divisions: Participate in snow and ice removal operations; operate all necessary equipment and tools; provide emergency response during and after weather events or other disasters to stabilize and repair City utilities and infrastructure; participate in flood control operations when necessary; participate in on‑call rotation; understand and follow all safety regulations; provide assistance to other divisions as directed.
- Operate motor‑driven vehicles, mowers, and power and hand tools to maintain and repair City parks, athletic fields, cemeteries, and fountains.
- Landscape and maintain facilities; mow, trim, perform fall and spring cleanups, remove and dispose of litter.
- Line and paint athletic fields and restore infields as directed.
- Perform maintenance on equipment, assist in minor repairs and maintenance.
- Assist in maintenance and repair of cemetery monuments and foundations; prepare graves for interments.
- Assist in maintenance and repairs of irrigation systems, including reading schematics and repairing low‑voltage wiring systems and fittings.
- Assist in maintenance and repairs of fountains, including seasonal start‑up and shut‑down.
- Spread seed, fertilizer, and lime as directed.
- Operate motor‑driven vehicles and power and hand tools to maintain or replace trees in the public right of way or on City properties.
- Service equipment, assist in minor repairs and maintenance.
- Maintain trees; plant new trees as directed; act as groundman for trimming or removal of trees, including those near high‑voltage lines; haul and chip brush; grind stumps; water new trees.
- Perform construction restoration repair and maintenance work, including asphalt and concrete work, curb repair, loam, and seeding.
- Operate motor‑driven vehicles and power and hand tools to install, maintain, and repair the City’s sewer and stormwater collection systems.
- Assist in repairs and maintenance of sewer and stormwater infrastructure, including sewer and drain lines, catch basins, and manholes; clear blockages while working in confined spaces.
- Service equipment, assist in minor repairs and maintenance.
- Respond to and assist in repairing sewer or drain line breaks.
- Identify deficient sewer and drain lines, catch basins, and manholes; assist in preventative maintenance, repair or replacement.
- Repair, clean, and vacuum catch basins.
- Place required chemicals in sewer lines.
- Assist in locating and marking underground sewer and storm drain facilities.
- Perform construction restoration repair and maintenance work, including asphalt and concrete work, curb repair, loam, and seeding.
- Operate motor‑driven vehicles and power and hand tools to install, maintain and repair the City’s water distribution system.
- Assist in repairs and maintenance of water distribution infrastructure, including repairs or replacements of water mains and service connections; assist with taps of water mains and assist in installation and replacement of hydrants.
- Service equipment, assist in minor repairs and maintenance.
- Respond to and repair water line breaks.
- Perform construction restoration repair and maintenance work, including asphalt and concrete work, curb repair, loam, and seeding.
- Assist in maintaining Water Division buildings and grounds, water storage tanks, and watershed property; weed whack and mow.
- Participate in water main and hydrant flushing; paint hydrants or other equipment as directed.
- Assist in locating and marking underground water facilities.
- Assist in installing water services.
- Clean Water Division facilities; sweep, mop and organize inventory and equipment.
