Location and Travel

Although the company’s head office is based in Northampton, candidates can be located within approximately a 100-mile radius.

The role involves travelling directly from home to project sites across the UK, with door-to-door travel provided. Attendance at the Northampton head office will only be required occasionally.

Working hours are based on a 50-hour basic week, with additional overtime available. Weekend work will sometimes be required depending on project demands, but this will not be every weekend. Overtime levels will fluctuate in line with workload and project requirements.

The Role

As a Tower Crane Electrician, you will carry out the installation, commissioning, inspection, maintenance, servicing and fault diagnosis of the Group’s tower crane fleets.

You will work independently and as part of a team, supporting crane erectors, operators and site management to ensure cranes operate safely, efficiently and in compliance with industry standards.

Candidates should have electrical experience within the tower crane industry. Previous experience working with Potain or Manitowoc cranes would be beneficial but is not essential, as specific product training can be provided. Applicants must be willing to learn how to maintain and repair these crane models.

The Tower Crane Division operates a modern and diverse fleet consisting predominantly of Potain and Manitowoc models. The company promotes high engineering standards, teamwork, ongoing training, professional development and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

• Carrying out electrical installation and commissioning work during tower crane erection, climbing and dismantling

• Undertaking advanced fault-finding and electrical diagnostics using manufacturer and third-party tools

• Completing planned maintenance and statutory inspections in accordance with manufacturers’ guidance and BS 7121-1, 2 and 5

• Updating job-management systems and completing service documentation and digital records

• Liaising professionally with site teams, clients, operations teams and engineering teams

• Ensuring compliance with CPA guidance, TINs, LOLER, PUWER, BS 7121 and internal lifting-assurance procedures

• Representing the company professionally at project sites throughout the UK

Opportunities for Additional Responsibility

For candidates with the appropriate skills and experience, there is scope to take on a more senior position with additional responsibility for the service and maintenance of the tower crane fleet.

This would include taking a leading role in scheduling preventative maintenance and organising and allocating the labour and equipment required to support these activities.

• ECS Level 3 NVQ Gold Card in Electrical Installation

• NVQ Level 3 Plant Installation – Tower Cranes

• Strong, demonstrable electrical experience within the tower crane industry

• Proficiency in systematic fault-finding and troubleshooting

• Full UK driving licence

• Flexibility to work weekends when required by project demands

• Willingness to travel to project sites across the UK

Desirable

• Potain or Manitowoc technical or diagnostic training

• Experience with anti-collision systems, including SMIE or AMCS

• Experience with crane load-monitoring systems
