As a Graduate Ornithologist, you will join the largest, full-time professional Ornithology team on the island of Ireland. You will have the unique opportunity to conduct ornithological surveys across sectors including wind energy, transport, residential, and flood relief schemes. The data you collect and analyse will inform the design of projects and contribute towards impact assessments and constraint reports. At MKO, our vision is to expand our reach and impact to help solve the defining environmental and societal challenges of our time.
Your work will be central to achieving this vision. You will work alongside a team of experienced ornithologists and have the chance to work in a variety of habitats and encounter some emblematic and rare bird species such as hen harrier, merlin, white-tailed eagle and ring ouzels or Eurasian crane.
- Education: The Graduate Ornithologist role is open to final-year undergraduates, master’s students and those who have graduated in the last two years in Ecology, Zoology, Environmental Science or another relevant discipline, equipping you with the necessary field and s to undertake the role.
- Species knowledge: We are looking for grads with a keen interest and good knowledge of Irish bird ecology with strong to excellent bird identification skills and a desire to learn and develop professionally in the field of ornithology within a multidisciplinary consultancy.
- Core skills: Our Grad Careers are perfect for you if you have a collaborative and flexible approach with the ambition to excel and grow within a team environment.
- Field readiness: We are looking for grads with a love of the outdoors and the aptitude and capability for undertaking independent field work in remote locations.
- Technical skills: Ideally, candidates would have good IT, GIS and report writing skills with competency in managing digital datasets.

Requirements: All candidates must hold a full manual driver’s licence.
