General DescriptionThe Math Teacher plans and administers the Math instructional program and classroom operation in compliance with guidelines and regulations determined by the administration and Department of Education. He/she will create an environment that encourages learning, motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to establish and continue a firm foundation for post‑secondary education and/or career opportunities. The Math Teacher will utilize all resources available to establish a cooperative relationship with parents, staff members and administrators to support each student's opportunity to learn and grow.
Required Qualifications- Minimum bachelor’s degree in Math
- DESE teaching license – Math (8‑12)
- Ability to handle a multitude of varying and complex issues
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to use technology effectively
Job Duties
- Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter as specified in state laws, frameworks and District policies.
- Develops clear and appropriate lesson plans and identifies instructional materials on a weekly basis.
- Selects, designs and organizes objectives, strategies, and materials for teaching Math, incorporating research findings in the instructional program.
- Provides individualized and small group instruction (as necessary) to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil, including advanced placement courses.
- Establishes and maintains standards of behavior in the classroom and throughout the school to achieve a positive learning atmosphere.
- Evaluates students' academic and social growth; keeps records, prepares progress reports, and provides constructive feedback to students and parents.
- Uses data to improve the learning and instruction process.
- Cooperates with other professional staff to identify student needs and develop assessments to solve health, attitude and learning problems.
- Creates an effective learning environment.
- Participates in the selection of books and other instructional materials.
- Supervises students in out‑of‑classroom activities during the assigned workday.
- Administers group standardized tests in accordance with District and state regulations.
- Participates in curriculum development programs.
- Participates in faculty committees, meetings and other faculty‑sponsored programs supporting the educational program.
- Maintains professional competence through District-sponsored in‑service programs and approved professional development activities.
- Consistent and on‑time attendance is required for supervision and instruction of the students.
- Other duties as needed.
Physical Requirements
Work is generally performed in a school environment during the school day, with occasional after‑school meetings.
Physical requirements include walking, standing, sitting, talking, hearing; bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling; occasionally lifting or moving objects up to 25 pounds. Teachers must have sufficient mobility to navigate a large school building.
