Health/PE Teacher - Algonquin Regional High School

Reports to: Building Principal

A Health and Physical Education teacher provides a developmentally appropriate program for students. The Health/PE teacher develops and delivers instruction aligned with established curriculum frameworks; adapts lessons and activities to meet diverse student needs and abilities; assesses student learning and provides feedback; collaborates with colleagues and administrators to support student success; and communicates with parents/guardians regarding instructional programs and student progress.

This position will begin on or before October 14 through the end of the school year and may be renewed for .

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree
• Valid license in Health from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Consistent and on-time attendance required for supervision and instruction of students

Desired Qualifications

• Master’s Degree
• Curricula including coursework in health and general education topics, human development and educational psychology
• Demonstrated experience with grade-level learning principles

• Creates and maintains an effective and developmentally appropriate learning environment for students
• Prepares daily lessons and activities
• Manages student behavior to provide a safe and optimal classroom climate
• Differentiates instruction to meet individual needs
• Collects data to document student progress and aid in planning
• Assesses student progress toward learning targets, objectives, and expectations
• Provides feedback on progress to students, parents, and administration
• Identifies student needs and cooperates with other staff members to help students solve social, emotional, and learning problems
• Collaborates with colleagues to improve student outcomes
• Follows specific standards, policies, and procedures of the building and the district
• Attends and participates in faculty meetings and professional development activities
• Consistent and on-time attendance required for supervision and instruction of students
• Other duties as needed

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
• Ability to occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 20 pounds
• Sufficient mobility to navigate within a large school building
