Circulation Coordinator, Whitinsville Social Library (Northbridge)
The Town of Northbridge seeks candidates to fill a full-time Circulation Coordinator position at Whitinsville Social Library.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Organizes, directs, oversees, and participates in the operations of the Circulation Desk, including supervising and training all library staff assigned to the Circulation Desk.
- Performs duties at the circulation desk including charging and discharging books, assists patrons, answers the phone, provides ready reference and readers’ advisory services, and issues library cards.
- Resolves problems relating to the circulation of library materials, including damaged, overdue, or missing items, and holds.
- Assists the Library Director and Youth Services Librarian with cataloging and processing new materials.
- Catalogs and maintains the museum pass, periodicals and hotspot collections.
- Supervises department staff in readers’ advisory services for adults, including book discussion groups.
- Assists in managing the circulating collection, including weeding and selection.
- Manages statewide and out-of-state interlibrary loan.
- Attends and actively participates in library and local library network meetings as required or appropriate.
- Develops and maintains Homebound Delivery Program.
- Acts as a supervisor to library volunteers assigned to collection maintenance.
- Assists with the maintenance of the library’s webpage, discovery platform, event registration and museum pass reservation platforms, and social media accounts.
- Communicates with library staff and patrons via email, phone, and in person.
- Performs all opening and closing procedures in the absence of a Senior Library Assistant.
- Adheres to and enforces Library policies and patron privacy standards.
- 35 hours per week. Weekly schedule to include a minimum of one evening per week, plus a minimum of one Saturday per month, year‑round.
- Bachelor’s degree. Three to five years of progressively responsible library experience including supervisory experience.
- Professional working knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of contemporary public library operations, methods, and procedures, and complete familiarity with automated library systems and related applications.
- Knowledge of standard office procedures, practices, forms, and equipment.
- Computer knowledge including Google Workspace, ILS, and library databases and apps.
- Able to work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Great social, interpersonal, and communication skills. Has proactive problem‑solving skills.
- Master of Library Science from an ALA accredited program.
- Knowledge of Evergreen ILS, Assabet Interactive, Aspen Discovery, Wordpress, Beanstack, Clio, Com Cat, Canva, and Libby.
- Experience working with the public at a library Circulation Desk.
Grade 7, non‑exempt. Includes benefits.
