.
The Associate Designer, Crate and Barrel Textiles will design and support the creation of textile designs and help manage the daily functions of the design area including the ownership of technical development briefs, and sample development management.
This is an on-site position (Monday through Thursday) based out of our Northbrook, IL office with the flexibility to work remotely on Fridays.
A day in the life as an Associate Designer, Crate and Barrel Textiles…
- Own the product design process for all textile categories for Crate and Barrel
- Responsible for overall assortment; develop into sustainable needs, adherent to set trends
- Oversee individual products during the research, communication, spec, development and approval stages, within a set calendar
May attend trade shows and attend vendor meetings on a seasonal basis, and manage the sampling and design requests from the vendors - Create presentations of key cross‑functional design milestones
Perform renderings, digital design work and CAD for product line
Own the development of technical product design specifications and CADs - Own product amendment comments and revisions through the design development and sampling process
- Maintain seasonal concept documents and design records
Manage design samples through their entire lifecycle - Partner with facilities to organize and maintain sample storage and review spaces
- Identify and support opportunities for improvement in business management and process design
Communicate effectively and efficiently with all company associates and business contacts - Build effective relationships with internal partners in Design, Merchandising, Materials and Sourcing to help execute cross‑functional synergy and collaboration
What you’ll bring to the table…
- Experience developing knits, wovens, and prints for home furnishing markets
- Understand different yarns, fibers, dyes, fabrics, knitting, weaving, and printing techniques
- Ability to interact and collaborate with Senior members of the team and major vendors with experience on product development
- Passion for design, style and decorating and knowledge of design and art history
- Ability to make decisions on operational matters that impact the effectiveness of their work
- Ability to translate business and design objectives into successful products
- Identify and support opportunities for improvement in business management and process design
- Communicate effectively and efficiently with all company associates and business contacts.
- Build effective relationships with internal partners in Design, Merchandising, Materials and Sourcing to help execute cross‑functional synergy and collaboration
We’d love to hear from you if you have…
- Must provide Portfolio link (including password) on resume or link to PDF samples
- 3+ years experience designing textiles for home furnishings, with a focus on bedding, pillows, throws, window treatments and rugs
- BFA or MA in Textile Design or any related design field
- Strong knowledge of design and art history
- Experience with technical design and design brief creation
- Strong Technical knowledge and experience with drafting, 3D modeling, and digital or hand rendering essential (AutoCAD, Rhino and Keyshot)
- Knowledge of Adobe Creative suite
- Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign essential
Minimum Starting Rate: $68,000.00 Annually
Up to: $90,000.00 Annually. Pay ranges will be adjusted upward as needed to comply with applicable state and local law. In addition to your salary, based on your role, associates may be eligible for other compensation including bonuses, sales incentives, and long term incentives.
