Senior Electro-Mechanical Technician – Industrial Controls
We are looking for a Senior Electro‑Mechanical Technician to join our Industrial Controls team at our corporate headquarters in Northbrook, IL. This hands‑on role is fully on‑site, Monday through Friday, and involves testing and evaluating industrial control panels with cutting‑edge technology.
Responsibilities- Examine test samples and read measuring instruments, blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and operational instructions.
- Evaluate test performance, provide feedback, and review test and construction data with supervisors or lab work requestors.
- Operate with minimal supervision within defined limits of responsibility.
- Direct, build and/or adapt setup and test equipment to new situations based on data sheets and instructions from engineering personnel.
- Train staff in test setups and test methods.
- Initiate recommendations for new equipment designs and solutions to observed test problems.
- Operate designated machines and special laboratory equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance of designated test equipment and laboratory area.
- Receive instructions from and report data to engineers and other laboratory personnel.
- Communicate with clients during test setup and performance to demonstrate methods and discuss results.
- Communicate with UL field representatives as necessary.
- Communicate with department personnel to offer equipment‑related suggestions.
- Record data on UL forms, prepare data sheets and test reports.
- Plan tests, evaluate results, and report opinions and interpretations.
- Assist PDEs and/or Engineering to modify existing methods or develop and validate new methods.
- Provide training and assistance to laboratory personnel.
- Read and understand test standards and testing technology for specific tests.
- Integrate continuous improvement concepts into all job aspects.
- Follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and security practices.
- Perform other duties as directed.
- Minimum of two years of university education in a related discipline or Electrical/Electronics Engineering.
- Demonstrated knowledge of high‑power systems (240 V/480 V, 3‑phase).
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with customers.
- Mechanical aptitude and experience using power tools and performing basic building tasks.
- Collaborative mindset and willingness to work in a team‑oriented environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to integrate automation into routine testing processes.
Estimated salary range: $51,000 to $68,700. Eligible for an annual bonus with a target payout of 5% of base salary. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage; mental and financial wellness programs; 401(k) retirement savings; and paid time off (15 days vacation, 12 days holiday, including floating holidays, and 72 hours sick time).
