Metals USA is seeking a 1st Shift Maintenance Technician for our Northbrook, IL location. Hourly Rate: $22-30/hour

Responsibilities
  • Dismantles machines and remove parts for repair, using hand tools, chain falls, jacks, cranes, or hoists
  • Reassembles machines after the completion of repair or maintenance work
  • Starts machines and observes mechanical operation to determine efficiency and to detect problems
  • Inspects or tests damaged machine parts, and marks defective areas or advises supervisor of repair needs
  • Lubricates or applies adhesives or other materials to machines, machine parts, or other equipment, according to specified procedures
  • Installs, replaces, or changes machine parts and attachments, according to production specifications
  • Records production, repair, and machine maintenance information
  • Reads maintenance repair work orders and specifications to determine machine and equipment requiring repair or maintenance
  • Sets up and operates machines, and adjust controls to regulate operation
  • Collaborates with other workers to repair or move machines, machine parts, or equipment
  • Maintains equipment files and orders spare-parts inventory on service center equipment and work effectively with operations to implement a preventive maintenance program to improve equipment uptime (or reliability)
  • May occasionally drive company motor vehicle (non-DOT) for local pick-up for parts
  • Comply with all safety regulations and procedures
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area and promote the same throughout the facility
  • Perform highly diverse duties to install and maintain production machines and the plant facility's equipment
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and performs scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service
  • Perform basic machinist duties and responsibilities
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment in performing duties
  • Diagnose problems, replace, or repair parts, test and make adjustments
  • Perform regular preventative maintenance on machines, equipment, and plant facilities as prescribed in the preventative/predictive maintenance plan
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications
  • Perform mechanic skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production machines.

Qualifications
  • Must have Vocational/Trade School education in electrical/mechanical work or Journey-level experience equivalent
  • Basic measuring skills to read and convert English and Metric systems
  • Able to read and write, speak English
  • Able to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience in general maintenance repair work
  • Experience on overhead crane operation desired
  • Must possess a Valid Driver's License
  • Requires a competent technical aptitude, demonstrated manual dexterity, finger dexterity, arm-hand steadiness, and multi-limb coordination
  • Position requires availability for emergency call-outs to come in and repair equipment as needed in the evenings and/or weekends
