Fulfills the mission of Norwich University by being responsible for maintaining timely and accurate balance sheet and general ledger accounts.
Hybrid work schedule may be authorized for this position.
Essential Functions- Verifies, records, and posts a variety of financial transactions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and University policy.
- Compiles, interprets, and analyzes financial data, often complex in structure, and generates related schedules and reports.
- Maintains and balances subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies.
- Reviews all credit card transactions for accuracy and is final approval
- Maintains all electronic uploads into the general ledger that is received from throughout campus.
- Collects W-9 or W-8 for new vendors verifying & managing set up.
Including SSN or TIN with the IRS verification. - Updates accounting related systems to improve operating efficiency and timeliness
- Assists in audits and prepare supporting work papers
- Maintains and updates fixed asset records
- Provides assistance and support to Controller, Assistant Controller and other Finance team members on special projects as needed.
- Responsible for a number of bank reconciliations.
- Maintains confidentiality of sensitive or private information.
- Communicates with employees, students, and others in a respectful and clear manner.
- Serves on University committees, councils, work groups, or other designated bodies as assigned.
- Achieves, maintains proficiency in, and utilizes computers, telephones, and other job-related equipment, including related systems and software.
- Speaks, reads, and writes in English.
- Communicates by telephone, email, letter, in person, or other means or device.
- Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance, or related field
- CPA or CMA track Preferred
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook). Experience with Banner or similar integrated software experience desired.
- Able to sit, squat, reach, push, pull, and manipulate related equipment; lift 15 pounds; travel outdoors to various parts of the campus
- Work some evening or weekend hours
- Low level of exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes.
