Career Coach

Fulfills the mission of Norwich University by supporting student retention initiatives through counseling/coaching students in all aspects of career education to include, career exploration and planning, resume and cover letter preparation, interview coaching, personal branding, goal setting, salary and promotion negotiation, networking techniques, job and internship search strategies. Supports students one-on-one and in group settings. Works as a part of a collaborative team to ensure students feel confident and prepared for internships and post-graduate work.

Essential Functions:

  • Serves as the career coach to the following majors:
    Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Exercise Science, Health Science, Pre-Nursing, Neuroscience, Physical Education, Nursing, Cyber Security, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Undeclared, Non-Matriculated, and Flexible Pathways.
  • Coaches and counsels students on career-readiness skills such as identifying career interests and goals, career planning and exploration, personal branding, resume/cover letter writing, salary and compensation negotiation, networking technique and strategy, interviewing technique, internship/job search strategy, internship for credit process and data tracking, best practices with AI and ATS software navigation, graduate school resources and planning, and professional skills development.
  • Develops and maintains mutually beneficial relationships with faculty, students, staff, alumni and employers to enhance and support academic and career programming, experiential learning opportunities, and workforce preparation and recruitment initiatives.
  • Supports First Destination Graduate outcomes with student and faculty outreach to increase participation.
  • Co-organizes and co-manages marketing and social media initiatives and assists team with website changes in collaboration with the Marketing and Communications Office.
  • Collaborates in the development of new strategies to reach key constituents both on and off campus to create value for all students.
  • Creates innovative and dynamic career-focused sessions for targeted audiences relating to general and specialized career-related topics.
  • Presents regularly in a variety of group settings (classes, clubs, orientation, and athletic teams) on career-related topics.
  • Assist with career-related events, including planning, management and evaluation, such as career fairs for the (Center for Career Readiness) CCR, on-campus recruiting initiatives, panels, College to Career Series, and other events as needed.
  • Represents both Norwich University and the Center for Career Readiness to the public at both on campus and off campus events, such as alumni events, local networking and business events if appropriate, accepted student events, and employer visits.
  • Keeps up to date on trends and best practices and career-related resources across a wide-range of industries across all appropriate majors.
  • Monitors and updates online resources to ensure the most accurate and up-to-date career-related information, employment trends, and major-related skills.
  • Supervises select career ambassadors with special projects in support of the CCR mission.

Other Functions:

  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive or private information.
  • Communicates with employees, students, and others in a respectful and clear manner.
  • Serves on University committees, councils, work groups, or other designated bodies as assigned.
  • Achieves, maintains proficiency in, and utilizes computers, telephones, and other job-related equipment, including related systems and software.
  • Speaks, reads, and writes in English.
  • Communicates by telephone, email, letter, in person, or other means or device.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in counseling, social work, higher education/education, human resources, psychology or other related field preferred.
  • 2 years of experience in higher education, education, human resources/recruiting or human services field.
  • Certifications in Strong, MBTI, FCD, or GFCD preferred.
  • One-on-one or group coaching or counseling experience.
