ELECTRICAL APPRENTICESHIP INSTRUCTOR ROCKY MOUNTAIN INDEPENDENT ELECTRICAL CONTRACTORS, INC. (IECRM) About the Role
IECRM instructors are the key to future success in the electrical industry. Instructors are hired to teach on a year-to-year basis. They will use the National IEC Curriculum as the basis of their teaching, but may enhance it with additional supplements, Power Points, and visuals from their own experiences.
The instructor is responsible for writing and grading tests, quizzes, and homework assignments. Must be able to work in an environment and culture that focuses on upholding the core values of the IECRM organization:
Integrity, Respect, Service, Collaboration, Accountability, & Empathy, and must foster a culture with an equitable work environment.
- IECRM Career College considers the Instructor’s position to be of extreme importance. The Instructor is the contact between IECRM and the apprentice.
- Instructors shall attempt, whenever possible, to be neatly dressed. A shirt and long pants are preferred. Some Instructors will come to the classroom straight from their jobs as electricians. It is understood by IECRM that under these circumstances, clean, neat clothing may be difficult to obtain.
- Instructors will adhere to the schedule. Class time is from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. To comply with regulations, class may never be dismissed prior to 9 p.m.
- Instructors will provide Lesson Plans to the Training Director. This form will be given and explained to instructors before classes begin. Lesson Plans are MANDATORY for instructors who are within their first 2 years of IECRM Instruction.
- Instructors will be responsible for the preparation and class instruction of IEC National Curriculum Objectives.
- Instructors must agree to IECRM’s Instructor Policies and Procedures listed in the IECRM Instructor Handbook and the IECRM Employee Manual.
- Instructors must understand and have available in all IECRM Classroom settings the IECRM Student Handbook.
- Instructors will accurately track and record student attendance.
- Instructors will promote a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students and will refrain from discussing any political, religious, or controversial subjects in the classroom setting.
- Instructors will communicate clearly and effectively with students and IECRM staff.
- Instructors are encouraged to participate in IECRM events and activities that may occur outside of the normal class schedule.
- All Gradebook and CMS documentation will be accurately maintained by the Instructor.
- NOTE: We are currently seeking Spanish/English bilingual candidates for this role.
- Prior teaching experience is not mandatory. We will provide training on successful teaching methods.
- A valid State of Colorado Journeyman’s or Master’s Electrical License.
- Minimum of 5 years of industry experience
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- The instructor must be an active or retired electrician. Being an IECRM member is a benefit to being an instructor. Graduates of IECRM are also encouraged to apply.
- The Instructor must obtain a State of Colorado Vocational Teaching Credential from EGTC before employment as an IECRM Instructor. IEC National Certification and State Certification are also required. Information about these programs will be given when hired.
Training Director
Pay Range$34 – $53 per hour, with all new employees starting at $34 per hour. To advance or receive an increase in hourly pay, the Instructor must complete the following objectives:
- IEC / EGTC TEAC 2221
- IEC National Training Advantage Level 1
- Conduct 4 Instructor Observations – Different Instructors
- Attend an IECRM New Student Orientation
This is a part‑time role, with most instructors working 5 hours per week to start.
New Instructors are hired on an annual contract of 36 class sessions for which IECRM will compensate new Instructors a flat rate of $170 per apprenticeship class.
