Guest Services Clerk

Description:Performs a variety of tasks related to the circulation and processing of materials. As a member of the Guest Services team, this position delivers the best level of customer service and helps maintain a safe, clean and pleasant environment for all visitors.

This is a non‑exempt position. Level 2

• Provides quality customer service, sometimes under stressful conditions.
• Understands and applies the library policies and procedures while safeguarding confidential and restricted information.
• Responsible for patron checkouts, returns, and account management including resolving issues with accounts and materials and handling payments.
• Assists patrons with the use of the self‑check, Simple Scan, copier machine and other equipment.
• Supports the processing of new library materials.
• Serves as a Passport Acceptance Agent and takes passport photos.
• Helps keep staff and public areas neat and orderly.
• Performs opening and closing procedures.
• Participates in library outreach events.
• Ability to learn new technology programs and operations as they are developed, including knowledge and use of computers and various hardware/software applications.
• Attend meetings and participate in continuing education opportunities.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Head of Guest Services.

• High School Degree required.
• Meet requirements to be a Passport Acceptance Agent.
• Preference for bilingual abilities (Spanish or Polish).
• Ability to communicate effectively to establish and maintain positive working relationships with staff and the public.
• May require day, evening, and weekend hour availability.
