About the Opportunity

Are you an experienced Med Surg/Telemetry RN looking for your next travel assignment? Join the Medical Surgical Unit (MSU) at DCH and become part of a collaborative team committed to delivering safe, compassionate, patient-centered care.

This is a multi-specialty unit primarily focused on Medical Surgical and Telemetry patients
, providing an excellent environment for nurses who enjoy variety, teamwork, and caring for diverse patient populations.

The unit offers 36 hours per week and provides an opportunity to strengthen your clinical skills while working alongside an experienced nursing and ancillary team.

About the Unit

The unit is a 24/7 acute-care nursing unit specializing in medical and surgical care and can accommodate up to 36 patients
.

Medical Patient Populations May Include
  • Acute medical conditions
  • Telemetry monitoring
  • Dialysis patients
  • Complex medical needs
Surgical Patient Populations May Include
  • Orthopedic procedures
  • Fractures, shoulders, and back procedures
  • General surgery
  • Appendectomies
  • Hernia repairs
  • Cholecystectomies
  • Colon resections

The team places a strong emphasis on pain management, mobility, prevention of complications, patient safety, and optimal clinical outcomes
.

Nurse-to-Patient Ratio
  • 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio
  • Supported by a Team Leader who is out of staffing
  • Collaborative nursing and ancillary support
  • Strong focus on teamwork and patient-centered care
Floating Requirements

Flexibility is required. The selected RN must be willing to float to other units and hospitals as needed to support patient care and staffing needs.

Schedule Requirements
  • 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend
  • Holidays as required
  • Must be flexible with scheduling and floating assignments
Education
  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required
Certifications
  • AHA BLS required OR
  • American Red Cross BLS accepted
Licensure
  • Active Alabama RN license OR Compact RN license
  • Temporary licenses are NOT accepted
  • Nursys verification required
Experience
  • 1 years of RN experience required
  • Candidates with 18 months of experience may be considered
  • Must have at least 1 year of recent experience in the specialty
  • Experience must be obtained while practicing under the highest level of professional licensure
