NFCA is seeking a Foundry Engineer to join our growing Engineering Team. The Foundry Engineer will collaborate with our internal team and external partners to cost, develop and launch sand castings for a highly diverse customer base. The Foundry Engineer will be responsible for designing, optimizing and troubleshooting metal casting processes with a focus on quality, production efficiency and cost effectiveness.
The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator who possesses strong analytical, problem-solving, and collaboration skills and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment where every day brings a new challenge. This is a full-time, salaried exempt position located at our Foundry in Norton Shores, MI.
- Technical Sales Support:
Review customer prints, drawings, and specifications to estimate manufacturing costs, materials, and production times - Tooling Design & Maintenance:
Utilize CAD software to design, test and maintain foundry tooling - Troubleshooting & Quality Control:
Perform root cause analysis on casting defects, implementing corrective actions to meet customer specifications - Process Development & Improvement:
Create and refine molding, melting, pouring, and finishing methods to reduce scrap and improve efficiency - Simulation & Testing:
Utilize casting simulation software to optimize rigging and gating designs. - Project Management:
Manage projects from initial concept to production coordinating between function teams (e.g. Sales, Ops, Rig Shop, external pattern shops) - Technical Support and Documentation:
Create and update standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and process instructions - Oversee internal Rig Shop, collaborating with NFCA Ops and Engineering to launch new products and solve problems
- Design fixturing and program CNC automatic grinding machines
- Other duties, as assigned
- Hands‑on experience with 3D CAD tools and specialized process simulation software
- Strong knowledge of process optimization and root cause analysis techniques
- Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to identify and resolve complex issues
- Outstanding communication skills with the ability to collaborate cross‑functionally
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Materials Science, Metallurgical or Manufacturing Engineering
- 3+ years of experience in an engineering role within a foundry, non‑ferrous metals preferred
- Experience with green sand molding, gas and electric melting
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for prolonged periods of time
- Ability to lift up to 35lbs on occasion
