The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading and developing a team of engineers. This individual will oversee project execution, engineering standards, testing and validation activities, and continuous improvement initiatives while fostering a high-accountability solutions-oriented culture. This individual will be a direct report to the General Manager and will be an integral part of the Leadership Team.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of approximately ten mechanical, design, and controls engineers.
- Provide technical coaching and professional development for junior engineers.
- Establish engineering best practices, standards, and design review processes.
- Drive accountability, ownership, and a “cando” mentality within the engineering team.
- Conduct performance evaluations, goal setting, and career development planning.
- Coordinate engineering resources and priorities across multiple projects.
Engineering & Technical Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of conveyor and material handling systems.
- Review engineering drawings, BOMs, calculations, and system layouts.
- Ensure designs meet manufacturability, safety, sanitation, and quality requirements.
- Collaborate closely with manufacturing, operations, sales, and project management teams.
- Support troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for field and production issues.
- Oversee engineering test lab activities and equipment validation.
- Develop and execute testing plans for prototypes and production equipment.
- Analyze test data and implement design improvements.
- Ensure proper documentation of testing procedures and results.
Process & Continuous Improvement
- Improve engineering workflows, documentation standards, and product consistency.
- Support design-for-manufacturing and cost-reduction initiatives.
- Assist in developing scalable engineering systems and processes as the organization grows.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or equivalent.
- 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably in one of the following:
- Conveyance systems
- Material handling equipment
- Food processing equipment
- Automation machinery
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience managing engineers or technical teams.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
- Ability to balance leadership responsibilities with direct engineering contributions.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of FDA, USDA, or sanitary equipment standards.
- Experience with ERP and PDM systems.
- Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience.
- Familiarity with finite element analysis (FEA) or advanced mechanical calculations.
- Strong “roll up your sleeves” mentality.

- Ability to coach and develop emerging engineering talent.
