Position: Customer Energy Management Project Coordinator I

Project Coordinator – Electric Distribution

Rate: $27-$32/hour

Hybrid in Norton Shores, MI

Position Summary

The Project Coordinator is responsible for managing the end-to-end execution of electric service delivery for residential, commercial, and industrial customers. This role requires a working knowledge of the electric distribution system and the ability to coordinate multiple project elements to meet customer expectations and company standards. The Project Coordinator serves as the primary point of contact for customers, ensuring seamless communication and project progression from initial scope through final construction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Customer Engagement & Coordination
    • Serve as the primary representative (“face”) of Consumers Energy to customers.
    • Facilitate communication and coordination between customers, internal departments, and external stakeholders.
    • Provide timely updates on project status and address customer inquiries and concerns.
  • Project Planning & Execution
    • Manage projects of varying size and complexity, prioritizing work to meet customer-required timelines.
    • Oversee the full project lifecycle, including scoping, design, billing, permitting, scheduling, and field construction.
    • Develop and maintain project timelines, ensuring milestones are achieved.
  • Project Scoping & Design Support
    • Evaluate and analyze electric distribution system requirements and impacts.
    • Gather and define customer project scope to support accurate work order preparation.
    • Identify necessary permits and regulatory requirements.
  • Operational Coordination
    • Generate and assign tasks across departments to support project progression.
    • Coordinate prerequisites needed for successful project execution, applying sound judgment and established procedures.
    • Schedule work orders and collaborate with field operations to meet customer commitments.
  • Field Work
    • Conduct on-site visits with customers as required (approximately 30% of time).
    • Maintain a valid driver’s license.
Required Skills & Competencies

  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and quickly adapt to changing priorities.
  • Proven ability to remain composed and professional in challenging or high‑pressure situations.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to recommend and implement solutions.
  • Understanding of how processes impact multiple systems and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and applications, including Microsoft Office and SAP or similar enterprise systems.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree in a construction or technical field (minimum of 48 scientific/technical credit hours), or
  • Completion of at least two years of college coursework (60 credits) toward a Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline, or
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in a utility or related field.
Additional Expectations

The ideal candidate demonstrates adaptability, initiative, and a strong commitment to delivering high‑quality customer service. They must be capable of quickly learning business processes, applying technical knowledge effectively, and contributing to the successful completion of complex projects. Candidate should live within 60 miles of the Norton Shores service center.

Key qualities include: excellent communication and customer service skills; the ability to multi‑task and remain organized; anticipation and understanding of the impact of actions on multiple systems; leadership skills, strong teamwork, and the ability to work independently on assigned complex projects; use of CAD or other appropriate systems/software/programs such as SAP to accommodate customer requests and align with internal quality control processes;

management of project milestones; and strong computer (Windows, Microsoft Office) and analytical skills.
