RN Nurse, Oncology Nurse
Overview
This is a 32 hour/week position. The Oncology Registered Nurse focuses on patient assessment, education, care coordination, and the administration of therapy, symptom management, and supportive care for the Oncology and Hematology patients at Dana‑Farber Cancer Institute.
ResponsibilitiesThe nurse provides direct patient care to individuals receiving therapy for oncologic and hematologic conditions. Responsibilities include assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for a complex patient population, administration of chemotherapy and other medications and infusions, telephone nursing care, charge capture/billing for all services rendered, and provision of patient and family education, psychosocial, and emotional support.
The nurse is a member of a multidisciplinary care team and collaborates effectively with co‑workers and other health‑care institutions. Clinical expertise, critical thinking, excellent communication skills, and an understanding of clinical research principles are required.
Key duties include:
- Implementing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation)
- Administering medications and treatments, including chemotherapy, and performing procedures safely and efficiently
- Managing emergency situations, maintaining BLS certification, and performing telephone triage
- Administering intravenous therapy, handling hazardous agents, and performing chemotherapy skill sets
- Documenting care according to Institute and regulatory agency requirements
- Meeting and exceeding charge capture and inventory accuracy requirements
- Serving as a resource for medical personnel and offering telephone consultation to other facilities
- Effective teamwork and collaboration in an interdisciplinary environment
- Critical thinking, problem‑solving, and independent decision‑making
- Strong communication, active listening, and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a busy setting
- IV skills preferred; physical stamina for walking, standing, and occasional lifting
- Proficiency in English and ability to perform pharmaceutical calculations
- Understanding of special needs and behaviors across age groups
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in Massachusetts or New Hampshire (or appropriate state)
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing strongly preferred (associate degree acceptable with BSN within 4 years)
- At least 1 year of recent RN experience, with ambulatory and/or oncology experience preferred
- Professional nursing certification preferred (e.g., OCN, BMTCN, CPHON, AOCNP, CRNI, RN‑BC)
- American Heart Association BLS certification required; ACLS acceptable as a minimum requirement
No direct supervision of others, but the nurse may supervise assistive personnel as appropriate in the provision of patient care.

For union positions, the pay range is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Salary range: $82,367.58 – $.
