Job Summary
The Estimator is responsible for evaluating customer needs, preparing accurate estimates, maintaining pricing systems, and supporting the sales process for Burke Plumbing & Heating Inc. Must have excellent written and verbal communication and negotiation abilities.
This position serves as a technical resource between customers, the Sales Manager, Service Manager, Operations Coordinator, and field technicians. The Estimator ensures all estimates, proposals, and pricing information are accurate, profitable, consistent with company standards, and aligned with established pricing strategies. Candidate will report directly to the Sales Manager and works closely with the Sales Team, Service Manager, and Field Technicians.
Dutiesand Responsibilities Evaluation & Estimating
- Conduct site visits and assess systems to identify customer needs.
- Gather measurements, photographs, equipment details, review plans, specifications, and project documentation/requirements.
- Coordinate with Technicians and managers to validate project scope and requirements.
- Prepare accurate estimates for repairs, maintenance, replacements, installations, and projects ensuring they meet business objectives.
- Determine labor, materials, equipment, permit, subcontractors, and other project requirements.
- Develop and present detailed SOWs, customer proposals, recommendations, options, and solutions to customers.
- Maintain accurate pricing information within Service Titan by updating labor rates, material pricing, equipment costs, etc.
- Provide technical support to the sales and tech teams.
- Coordinate equipment selections and product recommendations.
- Answer customer inquiries related to estimates, projects, pricing, and service opportunities.
- Ability to multi‑task.
- Ensure customer expectations and project requirements are clearly documented.
- Support the Dispatcher during periods of high call volume or staffing needs.
- Promote maintenance membership programs by explaining benefits and service plans.
- Follow up on outstanding proposals, estimates, and sale opportunities.
- Support customer retention and relationship‑building initiatives.
- Support continuous improvement of estimating procedures and workflows.
- Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
- Ability to evaluate project requirements and develop accurate estimates.
- Understand labor calculations, material pricing, and gross margin requirements.
- Ability to read blueprints, plans, and specifications.
- Understanding of flat‑rate pricing and estimating software.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to explain technical information in customer‑friendly terms.
- Professional customer interaction and relationship‑building skills.
- Conflict resolution and problem‑solving abilities.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Strong organization and documentation skills.
- Ability to prioritize changing customer and operational demands.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Service Titan experience preferred.
- Experience with estimating, CRM, and scheduling software preferred.
- Associate’s degree or technical training in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, construction management, or business required.
- 5+ years of experience in estimating, field service, installation, or related construction/home service roles preferred.
- Experience preparing estimates, proposals, bids, and scopes of work required.
- Experience in the HVAC, plumbing, or electrical industry required.
- A blend of office, customer site, and field environment.
- Frequent travel to customer locations, commercial sites, and networking events.
- Frequent computer, phone, and customer communication activities.
Ability to inspect mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems. - Ability to walk job sites, climb stairs, and work in varying indoor and outdoor conditions.
- Ability to manage a fast‑paced sales environment.
