Wheaton College, a liberal arts institution in Norton, Massachusetts, invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Financial Aid. Reporting to the Senior Associate Director of Financial Aid, the Assistant Director plays a vital role in supporting the college’s commitment to access, affordability, and student success by providing personalized financial aid counseling and administrative support to a diverse student population.
The successful candidate will join a collaborative, student-centered team dedicated to delivering exceptional service while helping students and families navigate the financial aid process with clarity, care, and integrity. The Assistant Director will be asked to provide the duties below, amongst other tasks.
- Provide information and services to prospective and enrolled students and families with regard to financial aid and college financing programs
- While the primary delivery method for advising will be in-person, phone counseling, and virtual Zoom appointments, the Assistant Director will represent Student Financial Services at admission information sessions and at various College events
- The Assistant Director will manage a financial aid application caseload (review applications, perform verification, provide early estimates)
- Responsible for outside scholarship processing and review
- Alternate with other staff members to be the counselor of the day, which involves handling walk-in appointments and answering office emails
- Must be knowledgeable about college financing and payment programs and able to convey messaging about affordability and net price, and have a pleasant and empathic demeanor
- A commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion is essential
- Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of experience required; or equivalent combination of experience and education required
- Must be able to multitask and manage time and set priorities to meet deadlines
- Must be knowledgeable of financial aid rules and regulations
- Must be able to work cooperatively with others and adapt to change, with importance placed on maintaining positive customer service standards even when under stress
- Prior experience working in a college or university setting, preferably in student services
