Job Summary /Basic FunctionWheaton College is seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and student-centered Adjunct Instructor of Dance to teach a 100-level introductory Ballet course. Our 100-level courses welcome a diverse group of students, ranging from absolute beginners discovering ballet for the first time to experienced dancers looking to maintain their technique. The ideal candidate will foster an inclusive, supportive, and physically safe studio environment that celebrates movement, promotes proper alignment, and introduces students to the foundational history and artistry of ballet.
Key Responsibilities- Teach the 100-level Ballet course according to the scheduled class times.
- Develop a comprehensive syllabus that introduces foundational ballet technique, barre and center work, terminology, and basic dance history.
- Provide constructive feedback to students of all skill levels and body types.
- Assess student progress, participation, and growth throughout the semester, and submit final grades in a timely manner.
- Maintain brief, professional communication with the Creative Arts department chair regarding student engagement and logistics.
- Education: BFA in Dance or a related field preferred; or equivalent professional performing/teaching experience.
- Experience: Prior experience teaching ballet (strong studio background will be considered).
- Education: MFA in Dance or a related field preferred; or equivalent professional performing/teaching experience.
- Experience: Prior experience teaching ballet at the collegiate level background strongly preferred.

- Communication: Strong interpersonal skills and a passion for mentorship within a liberal arts setting.
To attract and retain the most talented individuals, Wheaton College maintains a flexible and competitive staff compensation and benefits program. The anticipated hiring or recruitment range for this position is $5,000 per course. The salary for this position will be commensurate with the qualifications, education, and experience of the candidate.
