Position Overview
Temporary position in the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk office, appointed to assist in ballot processing, voter outreach, and clerical duties during election cycles. The role is open to the public and serves Los Angeles County by ensuring accurate record keeping and fair election procedures.
Essential Job Functions- Receives, opens, and processes ballot card boxes from precincts.
- Inspects ballot envelopes for write-in votes, validates votes according to election laws, and tallies results.
- Checks ballot cards for extraneous material or chads that may inhibit computer processing; removes material as needed.
- Accepts and stores computer-processed ballot cards in appropriate containers, records storage location for prompt retrieval.
- Reports any problems to supervisor.
- Participates in voter outreach by distributing information materials and registration forms.
- Recruits bilingual and special-program poll workers by providing volunteer information and applications.
- Explains polling-place operations and election processes to the public and officials.
- Performs clerical duties such as mailing election material, checking listings, and packing sample ballots.
- Loads and unloads election materials and supplies.
- No training or experience required.
- Valid California Class C Driver License or ability to use alternative transportation for essential functions.
- Physical ability to perform light clerical work, occasional lifting up to 10 pounds, bending, stooping, or squatting.
Positions are temporary only, with potential work sites including:
- Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk Headquarters – Norwalk, CA
- Ballot Processing Center – City of Industry, CA
- VSAP Operation Center – Whittier, CA
- Tally Operation Center – Downey, CA
- VCST – Santa Fe Springs, CA
- Field Work – Various Locations throughout LA County
Appointees may be required to work any shift, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
