Responsibilities
- Inspect, observe, document, and verify construction work to ensure compliance with project schedule, contract documents, and plans.
- Confirm that all procedures are followed and materials conform to specifications.
- Advise the contractor’s superintendent or project manager on necessary actions to ensure conformance with plans, specs, and contract.
- Review and resolve quantity disputes with the contractor.
- Apply engineering inspection practices to conduct sophisticated calculations, constructability and biddability reviews, and measurements of completed work.
- Review and check calculations for the inspector’s daily report of assigned work activities, contractor labor and equipment, and quantity of material received and verified.
- Perform on‑site material testing and produce as‑constructed sketches.
- Leverage relationships with peers for project discovery and talent acquisition.
- Maintain as‑built record drawings.
- Prepare contract close‑out documentation.
- Conduct construction schedule reviews, contractor pay estimate reviews, and change order management.
- Prepare and lead project progress meetings.
- Serve as a field technical subject matter expert.
- Lead daily assignments, mentor, and train employees as required.
- Partner with clients and act as a liaison between the field and the office.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Associate degree in Engineering, Construction Services, or related field and 12 years of relevant experience; or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Services or related field and 10 years of relevant experience; or 14 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
- Experience with bridge widenings, retaining walls, CIDH piles, driven piles, sound walls, ground anchor walls, and construction.
- Ability to work nights and weekends.
- Experience with Caltrans Standards, including Standard Plans & Specifications and Structure Construction Manuals.
- Ability to interpret contract plans and specifications.
- Recognize change conditions and proactively develop solutions.
- Experience working on Caltrans projects.
Approximate pay range for Los Angeles Metro Area and Orange County, CA: $ – $. Approximate nationwide pay range: $ – $. Compensation will depend on qualifications, experience, and location.
