Job Duties
  • Maintain currency with current information, concepts, laws and ideas in disciplines and best practices in teaching and learning.
  • Check mailbox, voicemail and e‑mail regularly.
  • Complete the checkout form before leaving campus at the end of the academic term.
  • Maintain student confidentiality as required by regulation and Board Policy 5040 titled Student Records and Directory Information.
  • Teach all assigned classes unless excused under provisions of Board Policy.
  • Deliver all scheduled class minutes, notifying the Instructional Dean or designee of any absence in advance with plans for a substitute if assigned.
  • Teach courses in accordance with the course outlines of record.
  • Provide opportunities for students to track their progress.
  • Submit the syllabus for each class to the Division Office.
  • Keep accurate records of student enrollment, attendance and academic progress and submit them by the published deadlines.
  • Submit end‑of‑session grades, supporting documentation, and attendance reports by the published deadlines.
  • Submit required information about first‑day, no‑show students by the published deadlines.
  • Submit textbook order information by the published deadlines; if the textbook or course pack is electronic, it must be available to students without charge, to students with disabilities, have read‑only access for designated staff, and be downloadable or printable.
  • Meet all classes during the final examination period.
  • Give final examinations at the scheduled time unless approved otherwise by the Office of Academic Affairs.
  • Maintain all corrected final examination papers for at least one year after the semester ends.
  • Maintain a safe learning environment in classrooms, laboratories, and other instructional spaces.
  • Allow the instructional manager or Instructional Dean to review any assignments given during the semester upon request.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's in art history, history of art and architecture or visual culture / visual studies; or Bachelor's in art history with a master’s in history; or Master's in art with a recorded emphasis or concentration in art history; or the equivalent.
  • Understanding of and sensitivity to the needs of diverse students, community, and employees across socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Focus on interdisciplinary approaches to art historical scholarship with an emphasis on cultural studies and critical theory.
  • Experience teaching community college courses.
Physical Demands
  • Ambulatory ability to move to various office and classroom locations and to stand, bend, stoop and reach to set up equipment and provide instruction.
  • Hand‑eye coordination and dexterity to write on a board or type on a computer.
  • Visual acuity to read documents and make presentations.
  • Auditory ability to project voice to a group, hear questions and prompts, and converse routinely.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull objects of medium weight (less than 30 lbs.) occasionally.
Conditions of Employment
  • Assignments are contingent upon sufficient funding and enrollment.
  • Assignments may include day, evening, and/or weekend classes.
  • Must obtain fingerprints for criminal history clearance and submit required documents and TB test results before employment.
  • Must be able to teach on‑campus or remotely as assigned.
  • Candidates must provide proof of California residency prior to employment.
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States and signing of the loyalty oath per Government Codes 3100‑3109.
  • The District does not provide immigration sponsor ships such as H1B visas.
