Position Summary:The Staff Accountant will prepare work papers andassist with the following key processes within the accounting department:
- Completion of account reconciliation; drive improvements in account reconciliation process; ensuring resolution of any identified reconciling issues.
- Assist with the quarter close process including creation of journal entries, report preparation and completion of key business analysis.
- Assist with the preparation of financial statements and footnote disclosures in accordance with U.S.Statutory and U.S. GAAP reporting.
- Assist with the preparation of annual and quarterly regulatory reports and filings.
- Assist on the preparation of quarterly management and board reports.
In addition to the above items, the Staff Accountant position will assist with the preparation of certain relevant internal controls for SOXcompliance. This position will have the opportunity to interact with various areas and departments across the Finance organization with greatlong-term growth opportunities, including interaction with senior level management.
Role Responsibilities:- Assist in the quarterly close process including, but not limited to:
- Preparation of journal entries
- Statutory
- GAAP
- Corporate
- Assist with the preparation of certain Balance Sheet tie outs, key controls and account reconciliations
- Receive and process reporting from third parties
- Prepare and provide reporting to third parties
- Assist in continuous process improvements, including identification and implementation of opportunities for process and control enhancements
- Assist in the preparation and related filing of:
- Annual Statutory Audited Financial Statements
- Quarterly and Annual U.S. Statutory filed Financial Statements and Supplements
- U.S. GAAP Audited Financial Statements
- Assist with the annual internal and external audits, as well as Department of Insurance examinations as needed
- Assist with the preparation of other various regulatory and rating agency reporting requirements
- Assist in the data governance process, including communications with third party administrators
- Perform other related duties as required, based on the changing goals and objectives of the department and organization
- Fundamental understanding of accounting concepts
- Introductory level understanding of U.S. GAAP
- Continuous improvement mindset with the ability to ‘think outside the box’ to improve processes
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills
- Strong analytical capabilities and good organizational skills
- Motivated with ability to take initiative and manage competing priorities while consistently hitting deadlines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Share Point
- Exposure to US Statutory accounting principles a plus
- Life (re) insurance experience, including statutory and U.S. GAAP reporting a plus
- Experience with statutory regulatory reporting software a plus
- Experience with Black Line or Workiva a plus
- Strong data and system integration skills
Certifications:
- BS or BA in Accounting or Finance preferred
- Minimum 2 years of accounting experience in public accounting or private sector
- Mathematics or other with equivalent accounting experience
- Candidate with CPA or MBA a plus
