South Norwalk Electric and Water, a water and electric utility owned and operated by the Second Taxing District, Norwalk, Connecticut, is currently accepting applications for the following position:
CLERICAL ASSISTANT
The Clerical Assistant is directly accountable to the HR/Office Manager at the discretion of the General Manager and is responsible for assisting and supporting the HR/Office Manager with clerical/administrative tasks while additionally providing support to other department heads and staff at the General Manager and/or HR/Office Manager’s discretion.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND REQUIREMENTS- High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- Must be bondable.
- Excellent clerical skills, including typing, computer data entry, word processing, office machine operation, and basic mathematical skills.
- Knowledge of computers and office software, with intermediate to expert knowledge in MS Office 365 Suite.
- Must be organized and detail-oriented, have good judgement, be proactive and resourceful.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn to operate computer equipment and related new software.
- Ability to track and maintain various data sets such as uniform expenditures, fleet data, employee phone listing, etc.
- Ability to answer the telephone in an informed and professional manner.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Ability to handle and collect money with integrity.
- Ability and mental stamina to follow up on all aspects of the position.
- Ability and mental stamina to relate and interface well with coworkers, customers, financial institutions, vendors, and attorneys.
- Order and maintain company supplies including PPE, First Aid, AED replacement parts, vehicle decals and special orders, such as company uniforms.
- Work with employees and vendors to set up and maintain appropriate uniform programs.
- Work with facilities maintenance to order janitorial supplies.
- Update and review technical training requests and various expense reports on behalf of employees.
- Transcribe District Commission Meeting recordings and post the agenda and minutes on company website.
- Maintain official District Commission Meeting books.
- Place local newspaper ads, such as meeting agendas, hydrant flushing, and request for proposals, and other items as needed.
- Maintain files both customer and records retention according to the guidelines of the State of Connecticut Library.
- Organizing destruction of records per the State of Connecticut Library.
- Maintain various office equipment, i.e., postage meters, copier/scanner in running order or call for service.
- Perform tasks for the Health & Safety Committee, such as taking meeting minutes and updating and/or maintaining the Learning Management System platform.
- Periodically assist Customer Service Department, as needed.
