POSITION SUMMARY:
This position works under the direction of the building principal in collaboration with the
building assistant principals and the Executive Director of Specialized Learning. The
Instructional Lead will facilitate interdisciplinary professional opportunities for staff to promote
interconnected learning for students. He/she will support teachers in each department to
implement the district focus on standards-based processes and strategies that promote improved
teaching and learning. The work of the Instructional lead will interconnect with that of the
Instructional Coaches that the work with teachers is aligned. This position will require skills in
the areas of leadership, collaborative planning and problem solving.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supports the efforts of teachers across subject areas, as assigned
- Works with teachers in both utilizing the processes and strategies necessary to effectively implement the curricula and selecting course materials
- Supports the implementation of district instructional priorities by providing support to teachers in assigned subject areas
- Supports teachers in the process of developing standards-based common formative assessments
- Works with teachers to understand how to implement data-driven instruction (DDI)
- Works with teachers to understand how to implement individualized education plan (IEP)
- Participates in and supports the implementation of weekly Teacher Team meetings in special education
- Promotes interdisciplinary projects and activities
- Supports teachers in their implementation of next steps decided at Teacher Team meetings , as a result of analyzing data and common planning, are implemented in classrooms.
- Works with teachers and the Education Administrator for Curricula and Professional development on writing and modifying curricula
- Works with designated testing coordinators at each site to support administrators in preparing for and implementing district mandated testing, such as PSAT/SAT, NWEA, and others as identified by the school and district
- Supports school's recruitment efforts
- Participates in interviews for hiring with school administrators
- Facilitates the orientation of new and substitute teachers to special education programs, materials and instruction with content-area teachers
- Keeps informed of new developments in curriculum and instruction methods
- Supports the school's administrators in implementing the student course selection process
- Attends monthly district meetings with the Education Administrator for Curricula and Professional Development scheduled during the established work day (including professional development time or on early release or other release) Maintains a high degree of professionalism in working with staff, students and parents
- Maintains a high degree of professionalism in working with staff, students and parents
- Works in the interest of the students' physical and emotional welfare.
- Works collaboratively with staff and administrators
- Learns and shares suggestions for instructional improvement.
- Participates in professional growth by attending workshops, taking courses, reading new literature, observing other teachers, and attending in-service training meetings.
- Connecticut Professional Educator License certification in a designated secondary content area.
- Knowledge and skill required generally acquired with a Master's degree in education and at least 3 years of teaching experience.
- Thorough knowledge of curriculum and instructional practices.
- Demonstrated outstanding teaching performance
- Demonstrated ability in organizational procedures.
- Knowledge of teaching methods, materials, and practices applicable to secondary school teaching
- Ability to learn and appropriately apply curriculum requirements. Commitment to curricular and instructional improvements.
- Demonstrated human relations skills to work effectively with students, parents, school administrators, and school staff.
- Demonstrated ability to assess and address the academic, social, and emotional needs of individual students.
- Ability to prepare effective plans and maintain proper records.
- Ability to communicate clearly, orally and in writing
- Extra duty to be performed during one release period per day per the A/B block schedule (equivalent to release from two of five classes).
- Stipend of $3,606.
- This is a ten-month position, and additional work will not be required over the summer months. Participation in one or two evening meetings and events per month related to position responsibilities is expected (not to exceed fifteen such meetings or events of the course of the year).
