Position Summary
:
The STEAM teacher is responsible for implementing classes in the Maker Space that focus on group work and creative problem‑solving, using what students have learned in math, science, art, and technology. They are responsible for empowering students to be critical thinkers and skillful researchers. They collaborate with teachers and specialists to design and implement lessons, units of instruction, assess student learning, and maximize instructional effectiveness in these areas.
Duties and Responsibilities
:
- Create an environment in the Maker Space that is conducive to active and participatory learning, resource‑based instructional practices, in collaboration with teaching staff.
- Plan and conduct weekly STEAM lessons for students at an age‑appropriate level.
- Plan and oversee technology curricula.
- Participate in the curriculum development process to ensure the curriculum includes the full range of technology skills (information, media, visual, digital, and technological literacy) necessary to meet content standards and to develop lifelong learners.
- Collaborate with the administrator in planning professional development opportunities for teachers and staff in the area of technology.
- Provide basic technology support to faculty, staff and students, including the use of different technology platforms.
- Research and propose new ways to enhance teaching and learning, promoting innovation and cross‑curricular collaboration, and fostering purposeful, meaningful, and creative integration of technology.
- Maintain technology inventory and share it with the technology committee.
- Prepare the Maker Space program budget to support specific program goals.
- Maintain current knowledge of developments in the STEM/STEAM model and in science and technology overall.
- Provide leadership for professional development for other STEM/STEAM instructors and paraprofessionals in the school to promote learning and teaching best practices.
Qualifications
:
Valid Connecticut Teaching Certification
