The Group I Bus Rider for Norwalk Public Schools shall be responsible for ensuring the safety and well‑being of all students while riding the school bus.
Essential Functions- Assist in the implementation of the Norwalk Board of Education administrative policies, rules, regulations, and directives.
- Follow Norwalk school policy to ensure student safety.
- Receive and follow oral or written instructions from a special‑education teacher or supervisor, including health or safety plans, IEPs or 504 accommodation plans.
- Immediately report accidents, assaults, destruction of property, and abusive behavior to the transportation supervisor and building supervisor.
- Immediately report parental concerns to the transportation supervisor and building supervisor.
- Ensure that students wait, board, and depart buses in a safe and orderly fashion.
- Work with drivers and the transportation supervisor in resolving problems with students.
- Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas, and techniques.
- Adhere to all district health and safety policies.
- Demonstrate highly effective organizational and problem‑solving skills.
- Maintain student discipline, including effective positive verbal direction and verbal de‑escalation strategies, ensuring that student behavior is not a distraction to the driver.
- Interact with unique students, parents, and faculty in a positive and proper manner.
- Maintain respect for confidential information at all times.
- May be required to document attendance on the bus on a form prescribed by the District.
- High‑school diploma or equivalency.
- Currently employed as a para‑educator in Norwalk Public Schools (preferred).
- One (1) year of experience working in the area of transportation routing or a related area.
- Fluency in Spanish or another language may be required.
- Certification in first aid and CPR must be held and maintained.
Days:
Monday – Friday (up to 37.5 hours weekly), Required to Ride Buses in addition to current para‑educator assignment
