ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

Position Description
Assists the elementary school Principal as assigned in directing, coordinating, supervising and evaluating the programs, activities and staff of the elementary school. Receives general direction from the elementary school Principal. Exercises direct supervision over elementary school staff members as assigned. Acts as the authoritative leader of the school when the Principal is absent.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSRecruitment, Selection and Orientation
- Assist with recruitment, interviewing, and screening of building staff
- Provide leadership and curriculum development
- Implement Board of Education policies
- Assist in the development of the master schedule
- Conduct classroom observations, staff conferences and provide written evaluation reports as assigned by Principal
- Meet regularly with assigned departments
- Evaluate professional staff as assigned by Principal
- Supervise non-certified staff in assigned areas
- Monitor students' schools and classroom attendance
- Work closely with special education and guidance departments
- Maintain current knowledge of new developments in curriculum and instruction
- Implement all established and new instructional programs
- Participate in in-service curriculum meetings
- Work with curriculum supervisors to improve curriculum
- Participate in the in-school Planning and Placement Team
- Participate in system-wide committees
- Act as a liaison with parents; initiate home communication with parents to achieve greater pupil efficiency in school
- Communicate data to Central Office and other agencies
- Knowledge of effective teaching techniques and instructional practices that result in quality learning for all students
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work collaboratively with others
- Experience working with young children
- Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
- Effective, active listening skills
- Organizational and problem solving skills
- CSD Active Intermediate Administrator certification 092 or eligibility
- CSD Special Education or Related Services endorsement or certificate
- Successful leadership experience
- Successful elementaryschoolteaching and/or related services experience preferred

Days: 12 Month Administrative
