ising Stars Performing Arts

Rising Stars Performing Arts is seeking an experienced, motivated, and dependable Technical Production Assistant to join our production team. This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys working in live theatre, solving problems, and helping create exceptional productions for young performers.

Because Rising Stars performs in a variety of rented venues rather than a permanent theatre, every production involves building, installing, operating, troubleshooting, and striking technical systems. We’re looking for someone who is adaptable, resourceful, and excited to be part of a collaborative production team.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in live theatre, live events, or production technology.
  • Strong working knowledge of theatrical lighting systems.

  • Experience programming and operating ETC EOS lighting systems
, including ETC Nomad, Element, Ion, and other EOS-family consoles
    .
  • Experience operating Midas digital audio consoles is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to quickly diagnose and resolve technical issues in high-pressure environments.
  • Comfortable adapting to new venues and performance spaces.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work professionally with children, teenagers, parents, volunteers, and production staff.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and able to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the installation, setup, operation, and strike of lighting, audio, and production equipment.
  • Program and operate ETC lighting consoles for rehearsals and performances.
  • Assist with sound system setup, wireless microphone management, and live audio operation.
  • Troubleshoot lighting, audio, networking, and electrical issues before and during rehearsals and performances.
  • Load, transport, unload, and organize production equipment between venues.
  • Maintain, inventory, and help repair technical equipment to ensure systems remain organized and performance-ready.
  • Help train, supervise, and mentor youth technical assistants in a safe, positive, and educational environment.
  • Work closely with the Technical Director, Artistic Staff, and production team to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality productions.
  • Foster a professional, organized, and supportive backstage atmosphere.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to use a personal vehicle to transport production equipment between venues when needed.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
    .
  • Comfortable working on ladders and performing physical setup and teardown.
  • Availability for evening rehearsals, technical rehearsals, and weekend performances.
  • Strong work ethic with excellent punctuality and reliability.

Compensation

This is a flat-fee, per-call position rather than an hourly role.

  • Dress rehearsal or short performance day: $100
  • Performance day that includes a rehearsal and/or strike: $150

Calls are scheduled on a production-by-production basis.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who takes initiative and enjoys finding solutions. Our ideal candidate sees what needs to be done without waiting to be asked, remains calm under pressure, communicates effectively, and takes pride in creating a safe, reliable, and polished production environment.

If you love live theatre, enjoy working behind the scenes, and want to help create outstanding educational theatre experiences for young performers, we’d love to hear from you.
