A leading private equity firm is seeking a Fund Controller to oversee the accounting, reporting, and operational activities for a portfolio of leveraged buyout (LBO) funds. This is a highly visible role that will partner closely with investment professionals, investor relations, operations, compliance, and executive leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting and support the continued growth of the platform.
The ideal candidate will be a CPA with strong private equity fund accounting experience, a deep understanding of partnership accounting, and expertise managing complex fund structures and transactions.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee all accounting and financial reporting activities for multiple private equity and LBO funds.
- Manage the quarterly NAV and fund close process, including review of capital activity, investment valuations, management fees, carried interest, and partner allocations.
- Review and approve capital calls, distributions, and investor reporting packages.
- Coordinate with third-party fund administrators and serve as the primary point of contact for accounting-related matters.
- Review quarterly and annual financial statements prepared in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Lead the annual audit process and coordinate with external auditors.
- Review partnership allocations, waterfalls, carried interest calculations, and complex investor structures.
- Monitor portfolio company activity, acquisition accounting, realized and unrealized investment performance, and fund liquidity.
- Partner with deal teams on transaction execution, fund structuring, and new investment activity.
- Assist with new fund launches, fund restructurings, and special purpose vehicle (SPV) formations.
- Oversee compliance with partnership agreements, side letters, and investor reporting requirements.
- Evaluate and enhance accounting policies, controls, and operational processes to support a growing platform.
- Mentor and develop junior accounting and fund finance professionals.
- CPA required.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 10+ years of experience in private equity fund accounting, fund administration, or public accounting with a private equity client focus.
- Strong knowledge of partnership accounting, investment company accounting (ASC 946), and private equity fund structures.
- Experience with leveraged buyout funds, co-investment vehicles, continuation funds, and SPVs.
- Thorough understanding of capital calls, distributions, waterfall calculations, carried interest, and investor allocations.
- Experience reviewing audited financial statements and managing external audit relationships.
- Big 4 public accounting background preferred.
- Experience overseeing third-party administrators.
- Exposure to international fund structures and complex investor arrangements.
- Prior management experience with direct responsibility for developing and mentoring staff.
- High-profile role within a growing private equity platform.
- Significant interaction with partners, investment professionals, and senior leadership.
