Position: Paramedic - FT - Eve/Night - Norwalk

Summary

Provide basic and advanced life support care to patients in the prehospital and emergency department settings. Supervises other emergency personnel at the scene, serves as Incident Commander or Medical Officer for mass casualty situations, and works as a solo practitioner among volunteer EMS personnel. Demonstrates competent understanding of paramedic level emergency medicine and the ability to deliver patient care in a sophisticated and intelligent manner.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain less than 2‑minute activation time when an ambulance is available; evaluate scene safety; bring all required equipment to the patient side; transport patient with all equipment.
  • Perform thorough, timely history and physical exam; develop an accurate working diagnosis; create and implement a treatment plan; explain plan to patient/family; monitor and document results; provide care in consultation with Emergency Physician and Charge Nurse.
  • Attend required CME/PCE; maintain current CME hours; keep Paramedic License; maintain CPR, ACLS and PALS certifications; pursue further knowledge and follow patient progress with physicians.
  • Demonstrate safe vehicle operation: no motor‑vehicle accidents at fault, knowledge of major roadways, meet driving program standards, operate vehicles safely and courteously, provide comfortable ride, park safely.
  • Check vehicles, equipment, and supplies upon duty; complete required documentation; correct deficiencies by restocking, cleaning, repairing, or notifying as required.
  • Complete all patient care records accurately and timely; meet medical documentation requirements per policies and procedures.
  • Promote a positive image of Norwalk Hospital EMS; provide educational assistance to other health‑care providers; perform public education; resolve conflicts; demonstrate teamwork; serve as a preceptor for paramedic and EMT students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Fulfill all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
  • Qualifications
    • High School graduate (required).
    • Minimum two years of experience (required).
    • CT Licensed Paramedic.
    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications.
    • Valid driver’s license.
    • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Science (preferred).
    • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS); PHTLS/ITLS, TECC/TCCC, NRP (preferred).
    Working Conditions
    • Manual: significant manual skills, motor coordination, and finger dexterity required.
    • Occupational: significant occupational risk.
    • Physical effort: significant exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
    • Credentials: PARAMEDIC, ACLS, PALS.
    • Salary Range: $26.48 - $50.49 hourly.
