Position: Furnace Deck Operator I

Location:

11120 South Norwalk Blvd, Santa Fe Springs, CA 11120.

Position:
Furnace Operator I – Onsite (U.S. Citizen required).

Security Clearance:
DoD Secret, active and existing required after day 1.

Role Overview

In the Furnace Deck department at Collins Aerospace Carbon Operations, the Furnace Operator is responsible for the core production processes of carbon‑carbon composite brake components. Duties include loading/unloading high‑temperature furnaces, performing preventive maintenance, and operating various equipment to ensure product quality and delivery timelines.

Responsibilities
  • Observe and follow environmental, health, and safety procedures.
  • Follow engineering instruction, standard operating procedures, and departmental procedures for loading/unloading furnaces, building furnace loads, and preventive maintenance.
  • Operate furnaces using the Distributive Control System.
  • Operate support equipment including cranes, forklifts, vacuums, scissor lifts, and power tools.
  • Learn and perform equipment preventive maintenance and support operation of facilities equipment such as vacuum pumps, cooling water system, off‑gas system, condensate recovery, and process gases.
  • Complete the departmental training program on schedule.
  • Assist other departments with approval from management.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Work rotating 12‑hour shifts (4‑on/4‑off), rotating 12‑hour swings, 6:45‑6:45.
  • Work from heights and confined spaces with exposure to fumes, airborne particles, noise, and temperature extremes.
  • Handle stress associated with the position at all times.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
What You Will Learn
  • Operations of the carbon‑carbon brake manufacturing process and customer specifications.
  • Operation of overhead cranes, forklifts, vacuums, scissor lifts, and power tools.
  • Furnace readings, rounds, and process flow oversight.
  • Equipment preventive maintenance and reporting of mechanical or safety concerns.
  • Collins and customer specifications, finished product details, and relevant policies.
  • Basic furnace operation and process equipment tolerance limits.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Manufacturing or similar industry experience preferred.
  • Experience using hand tools.
  • Experience with inventory control.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks under constantly changing conditions requiring ingenuity and judgment.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Annual base salary starting at $55,000.
  • $22/hour base rate with $2.75/hour shift differential.
