Resource Capacity Building VISTA
- Connecticut Foodshare

Connecticut Foodshare is the state's only Feeding America food bank. We support individuals and families – from one end of the state to the other – by addressing root causes, creating long‑term solutions, and distributing nutritious food through local partner programs in an effort to alleviate hunger. The goal of the VISTA project is to reduce poverty by increasing the capacity of Connecticut Foodshare’s network of 500 partner programs to provide better access to food and related services;

allowing food insecure households maximise their limited resources. This VISTA position is a good fit for someone with excellent verbal, interpersonal, written, and communication skills with an ability to effectively and respectfully interact with people of all different backgrounds. The VISTA should be a self‑starter, organised, and able to multi‑task. Digital media skills and experience with Microsoft Office products is important.

The VISTA must have a passion for helping others with dignity and creating a thriving community free of hunger. Bilingual in English and Spanish (written and verbal) preferred but not required. The position is based out of the Wallingford or Bloomfield office with statewide travel – mileage reimbursed. Must have own transportation.

Member Duties
  • Support food assistance programs (meal centres and food pantries) to build capacity and shape the experience of the people served.
  • Build capacity by documenting best practices and creating training tools that support partners to increase access to food and funding sources.
  • Develop and share toolkits for partners to attract, train and manage volunteer teams.
  • Maintain interest and experience with research and training and possess a collaborative and problem‑solving nature.
  • Enrich the member professionally and personally while serving a 5‑year Top Workplace award winner.
  • Train with current Connecticut Foodshare staff and participate in VISTA trainings.
