Registered Nurse - General Medicine

Job Summary

3 twelve‑hour shifts rotating days and nights; working every other weekend.

The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care guided by the American Nurses Association (ANA) scope of practice. The RN collaborates with patients, family, peers, physicians, and the interdisciplinary team in the delivery of healthcare services. The RN assesses patient needs, develops and implements patient care plans, and evaluates the effectiveness of medical and nursing interventions in accordance with hospital policies and standards.

• Completes patient assessment and re‑assessment as clinically indicated.
• Documents detailed information incorporating the plan of care, interventions, and outcomes reflecting the physical, mental, and emotional status.
• Ensures appropriate documentation for the level of care, including transfer/discharge documentation.
• Follows the five rights of medication administration; verifies patient identity, dose, time, route, and response.
• Coordinates and supervises nursing care, delegating tasks with accountability.
• Promotes a culture of safety: assesses patients for potential risks, follows safety policies, initiates interventions, conducts bedside shift reports and rounds, documents the nursing process, and ensures proper hand‑off when leaving for breaks.
• Assesses learning needs of patients, family, or significant others; plans and provides instruction with appropriate teaching methods; documents responses.
• Provides care to specific patient populations as required.
• Delivers patient‑centered care: embraces cultural diversity, respects dignity, and maintains open communication.
• Meets accreditation, regulatory, and compliance responsibilities.
• Promotes a culture of learning and growth: seeks educational experiences, mentors others.
• Performs other duties as assigned within the nursing scope of practice.

• Associate’s Degree in Nursing or higher.
• Current Connecticut Registered Nurse License (CT Hospitals); new graduates awaiting licensure may be considered.
• Certification preferred:
  American Nurses Association endorsed or Academy of Medical‑Surgical Nurses Certification.
• Credential: RN, BLS.

• Manual: significant manual skills, motor coordination, finger dexterity.
• Occupational: some occupational risk.
• Physical effort: medium to heavy; may exert up to 35 lbs of force.
• Physical environment: exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
