Three 12-hour shifts 7p-7:30a with alternating every other weekend as needed.

Norwalk Hospital is a 366-bed academic and community medical center serving Fairfield County, Connecticut, and the surrounding New York Metro area.

Summary

The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care guided by ANA scope, collaborating with patients, family, peers, physicians, and interdisciplinary team, assessing needs, implementing care plans, demonstrating leadership.

Responsibilities
    • Completes patient assessment and reassessment as clinically indicated. Documents detailed info with plan, interventions, outcomes reflecting patient's physical, mental, emotional status.
    • Ensures appropriate documentation based on level of care, including transfer/discharge documentation.
  • Follows the five Rights of Medication Administration. Verbalizes medication to patients/family/significant others, assesses prior, notes allergies, parameters, potential side effects, intervenes as needed. Reassesses and documents response per policy.
  • Coordinates and supervises the delivery of nursing care, including delegation of tasks, maintaining accountability for delegated care.
  • Actively promotes culture of safety: assesses patients for potential safety risks, adheres to policies and procedures, initiates interventions, conducts bedside shift report and rounds, documents nursing process, ensures hand‑off during breaks.
  • Assesses learning needs of patient/family/significant others and plans instruction using appropriate teaching methods, documents response.
  • Cares for specific patient populations as needed.
  • Delivers patient‑centered care: embraces cultural diversity, respects dignity, maintains open communication, actively listens.
  • Meets accreditation, regulatory, and compliance responsibilities.
  • Promotes culture of learning and growth: seeks learning experiences, mentors others.
  • Performs other duties as assigned within scope.
  • Education, Skills, and Experience

    Graduated from an accredited nursing school with an Associate’s Degree (required) or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (preferred).

    Other Information

    Current, unobstructed Connecticut Registered Nurse License (CT Hospitals).

    American Nurses Association endorsed Certifications or Academy of Medical‑Surgical Nurses Certification preferred (based on specialty hours).

    Working Conditions
    • Manual: significant manual skills, motor coordination, finger dexterity.

    • Physical Effort: medium to heavy effort, may exert up to 35 lbs.
    • Physical Environment: exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste.

    Credentials: RN, BLS, NRP.
