This is a hands-on role where you’ll work outdoors, learn valuable equipment and landscaping skills, and play a direct role in maintaining the parks and natural areas our community enjoys every day. The Seasonal Park Maintenance position will be employed from approximately April 15 to October 15 and work up to 40 hours a week. The start/end dates and the number of hours per week are subject to change depending on weather, seasonal conditions, and employee availability. The typical work week will be Monday to Friday, and some weekend work will be required.
The Seasonal Park Maintenance position performs semi-skilled work in the maintenance, care, and modification of park grounds and landscapes, which includes the operation of electrically-powered and gasoline-powered groundskeeping equipment and machines, and the use of small hand and power tools or equipment in planting, cultivating, and trimming grounds and landscaping. The Seasonal Park Maintenance position also performs maintenance on groundskeeping equipment and tools, and makes minor repairs (within demonstrated capability) as directed.
Hourly wage starts at $15 per hour.
All offers of employment are conditioned upon successfully passing a background check and drug screening.
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be assigned.
Operates commercial-size turf mowers to maintain park turf areas at the desired level.
Operates gas-powered string trimmers to trim around trees and park improvements.
Conducts invasive species removal, pesticide/herbicide application, and seeding in natural areas.
Operates chainsaws and hand saws to trim trees as directed.
Design and plant floral beds and native vegetative material,s including prairie planting and perennials.
Plants, weeds, and waters landscaped areas.
Operates compact tractors with multiple attachments to accomplish maintenance tasks
Uses power and manual shop tools to maintain vehicles and equipment as assigned.
Assists in the improvement of park facilities in construction, roofing, remodeling, etc.
Performs other facility and site maintenance tasks as assigned.
